Internet Usage | Internet World Stat | What is internet penetration rate in Malaysia?

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Internet penetration rate in Malaysia is estimated at 62% in 2011. By 2015, the rate will reach 77%.

The following table also shows broadband penetration, which estimated at 7.3% in 2011.

Residential areas re-zoned

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) has officially re-zoned four localities on the island from residential to commercial status.

Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) planning committee alternate chairman Felix Ooi Keat Hin said that between 2009 and last year, MPPP had completed its study on the re-zoning of Gurney Drive, Jalan Kelawai, Jalan Masjid Negeri and Jalan Bagan Jermal from residential to commercial status.

The re-zoning applies for the whole stretch of Gurney Drive, Jalan Kelawai and Jalan Masjid Negeri while for Jalan Bagan Jermal, it is from the junction of Jalan Burma to Jalan Kelawai.

He added that the re-zoning exercise was due to the rapid development in the respective areas where there was growing demand for commercial activities.

"House owners, who wish to conduct business on their premises there, have to apply for the licencing changes from the council.

"However, those who want to maintain their premises for residential use need not apply." he said when contacted yesterday.

Ooi said the council was also processing the application of planning permission and to change the status of the Bali Hai seafood restaurant from residential to commercial use.

Excerpt from the discussion:
There're four(4) category/classification namely Core zone, Buffer zone, Inland zone and Renovate zone.

Class1: Those houses in Core zone will have full restoration(including facade, roofing-terracotta, internal structure original design).

Class2: Those houses in Buffer zone will have at minimum restoration(including facade, roofing-terracotta). Internal structure could be original design or modern design).

Class3: Inland zone is gazetted vacant land that when develop will fall under Class2(within Buffer zone).

Class4: Renovate zone. This is when rebuilding of existing modern building(within Buffer zone).

Outside of Buffer zone, there're houses that fall under Class2.
